Games to eliminate the 3-putt!

If, like most golfers, you feel somewhat ill at the thought of a 3-putt green, here are some interesting and fun drills you can enjoy, whilst eliminating that ugly ogre from your game.

These games will work best once you have warmed up by practicing the drills offered in our last two newsletter editions, namely “OBEY THE SPEED LIMITS ON SHORT PUTTS” & “FEEL YOUR WAY TO BETTER PUTTING”.

GAME ONE:

  • Take 1 ball and Identify 3 different holes between 8-15m on the putting green.
  • Putt the first hole and if you miss the 2nd putt, you start again.
  • If you successfully two-putt you can move on to the 2nd hole.
  • This principle applies throughout, in other words, whenever you 3-putt, you must start at hole 1 again.

To make this game more challenging, add more holes.

GAME TWO:

  • Take 3 balls and Identify 3 different holes between 5-8m on the putting green.
  • Your first station is 1.5m from the first hole and from that station, putt 1 ball to each of your chosen holes.
  • Putt out on all 3 holes and add your score.
  • Your second station is 3m from the second hole, repeat the process.
  • Your third station is 4.5m from the third hole, repeat the process.

Par for the course of 9 holes is 17 – you should play this game about once per week as a measurement guide to your improvement on the putting greens.
