Rolling your way to a better turn

Golfers often complain to me that they are feeling limited in their ability to make a full shoulder turn in their golf swing.

The issue here actually lies in thoracic spine mobility. The thoracic spine is the middle part of your back just above the lower back and in between the shoulder blades. Limitation in thoracic spine rotation is a common occurrence these days because of the posture people assume for most of the day behind desks or computers.

The most effective way to improve thoracic spine mobility is by manual therapy, which is physical treatment primarily used by physiotherapists, massage therapists, and chiropractors to treat muscular pain. Examples of this include massage, manipulation and acupuncture. However, there is an easy to use, simple alternative - The foam roller....

Foam rolling will do three things for you:

  • Improve circulation
  • Activate the central nervous system
  • Help with myofacial release

Foam rolling isn’t called “the poor man’s massage” without reason – it is a brilliant technique for manual therapy that you can do for yourself and even in the comfort of your own home.

I will be happy to show how and our friendly Gary Player Golf Experience hospitality desk will be happy to make a booking for you. Please visit them on the East side of the World of Golf clubhouse or call them on 011 545 8618.
