Dont keep your head down
You’re on the range and someone says “Keep your head down!”
This is what will happen if you follow this well-meaning but ill-advised advice:
- At address, your chin will be tucked into your chest, causing your posture to be too crouched.
- Keeping your head down at impact will block the natural release of the club-head and your weight transfer, resulting in inconsistency.
- You will also likely fall back at impact, forcing your upper body to lift up – this is what gives the impression that you’re lifting your head.
Your GPGE Prescription:
- Lift your chin – this will allow your shoulders to turn unrestricted, thereby supporting maintenance of your spine angle.
- Remember to tilt from the waist.
- When the club-head hits the ball, allow your head to follow the ball in a natural manner. The ball is on it’s way – there is no sense in keeping your head down any longer.
Practise this on the World of Golf target tees or, if you have grass tee membership, even better there!
