The most important awareness you should have regarding your downswing is correct sequencing, which is the key to consistent ball-striking and improved accuracy. Before we examine this, it is important to understand that the upper body takes the club back, but the lower body initiates the downswing and is responsible for returning the club to the impact zone!
If you can execute the drill described below correctly, you will ensure all-important correct sequencing of your lower body, and the results are destined to astound you:
Step Two: Keeping your feet together, take the club away to the top of your backswing and stop
Step Three: Step past the ball with your leading foot and complete the swing with a balanced follow through
As soon as your leading foot makes contact with the ground, hit the ball!
If you start the downswing before your foot contacts the ground, you will not experience good sequencing. This whole movement emphasises how the downswing is initiated by the lower body and avoids the common fault of initiating the downswing with the arms.
