THE RIGHT KNEE SYNDROME

This month our GARY PLAYER SCHOOL FOR CHAMPIONS coach, Steph Spies, shows by means of pictorial illustration the importance of a stable right knee in the golf swing.

The angle from behind illustrates that -

  1. My right leg maintains its angle at address and through the backswing.
  2. At the top of the backswing, I am loaded and ready to initiate the downswing from a solid right leg base.

This correct downswing sequence, starting from the legs, will do a great deal to help you get back on plane.

The angle from the front shows that -

  1. When you make your backswing your right knee must remain as stable as possible.
  2. Your shoulders turn towards a stable right leg.
  3. Because my right leg has stayed between the lines, I remain centered over the ball. This will lead to more consistent ball striking and can help with more efficient power transfer in the downswing.
