Get a grip on your basics!

Your grip is the first and most important fundamental of the golf swing, as it is your only connection to the golf club. So when last did you have your grip checked by a Gary Player pro?

Never fear, Steph is here to help you better understand your connection. For starters, there are three grip positions, as follows:

STRONG GRIP

In this position, it feels like your trail hand is under the club and your lead hand is on top of the club. This grip will generally encourage a draw or hook shape on your ball flight.

WEAK GRIP

NEUTRAL GRIP

In the neutral position both hands should feel like they are on either side of the club. This grip will give you the best chance to create a consistently straight ball flight.

Now it will feel like your trail hand is on top of the club and your lead hand is on underneath the club. This grip will generally encourage a fade or slice shape on your ball flight.

It is important to note that all grip positions have their own advantages and challenges and may or may not suit your individual requirements. To determine the best grip for you, please visit your Gary Player professional for best advice.

In next month’s tip, Steph will explain the effects of the grip positions on the takeaway.
